Never Read a Bible Verse…

This week, I witnessed, again, a so-called “sermon” by a leader in the church. Ostensibly it concerned Jeremiah 12:5; in actuality, it was nothing more than a speech on self-determination and the “will to power.” Not one single thing he said concerning the verses was Biblically true. To make matters worse, he ended with a long quote from New Age guru, Marianne Williamson, of whom Time magazine said in 2003, “Yoga, the Cabala and Marianne Williamson have been taken up by those seeking a relationship with God that is not strictly tethered to Christianity.”

I thought I’d put a link to a very important document by Greg Koukl here to let everyone know that reading a Bible verse out of context is a very dangerous thing to do as a teacher and preacher of the Word. Remember, as teachers, we are told by God that we are held to a higher standard. We are also commanded to not add or subtract from the Word of El Elyon, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
